Erika is a ceramic artist currently living in Lawrence, Kansas. Her ceramic practice starts with a fascination of the multifaceted nature of clay as she utilizes various techniques including the potters wheel, hand-building, and slip casting. Each piece is made by hand, and is a meditative process exploring the intricacies of utility, intimacy, and the ornate. The hand painted surfaces and forms create a tactile narrative, drawing inspiration from the deep history of craft and its ties to gender, class, and nature. Her work joins the decorative and functional, and invites you contemplate the beauty of domestic objects, encouraging a deeper connection to the items we use daily.
Erika studied ceramics at the Kansas City Art Institute, and has been a resident artist at the International Ceramics Studio in Kecskemet, Hungary.
